Every Moment Matters
As we continue to celebrate National Child Contact Centre Week 2026, today’s theme is Family Focus.
For many families, spending time together is something that happens naturally. A family meal, a trip to the park, reading a bedtime story or simply talking about their day can often be taken for granted.
However, for many of the children and families who access child contact services, family time is very different.
Some children may only see their parent once a week. Others may have contact once a month, and in some cases, contact may only take place every few months. For these children and parents, every visit matters.
Every hour is important.
Every interaction counts.
Every memory created during that time can have a lasting impact.
The Importance of Family Time

Family time provides children with an opportunity to maintain important relationships with the people who love and care for them.
For children, contact can help:
💚 Maintain a sense of identity and belonging
💚 Strengthen family relationships
💚 Reduce feelings of loss, confusion and uncertainty
💚 Build positive memories
💚 Reassure them that they remain loved and valued
Children often look forward to contact sessions for days or even weeks beforehand. Equally, many parents spend significant periods waiting for the opportunity to see their children.
The anticipation, excitement and emotions surrounding contact can be immense for everyone involved.
This is why creating positive family time experiences is so important.
Creating a Child-Friendly Environment
At springcare, we understand that the environment can play a significant role in how children experience family time.
Our aim is to create spaces that feel welcoming, safe and enjoyable for children.
Whether children choose to play games, complete arts and crafts activities, read books, explore toys, engage in sensory activities or simply spend quality time talking with their family members, we want them to feel comfortable and relaxed.
A child who feels safe and settled is better able to focus on what matters most – spending meaningful time with their family.
Creating Opportunities for Families to Connect
At springcare, we recognise that meaningful family time does not just happen because a contact session has been arranged. The environment, resources and opportunities available during that time can make a significant difference to a child’s experience.
That is why we have invested in creating bespoke family-focused facilities designed to encourage interaction, engagement and positive memories.
An example is our Rainbow Room, which has been specially designed for younger children, provides a welcoming and stimulating environment where children and families can play, explore and spend quality time together.
Within the room, children can enjoy:
🎈 A ball pit
🧩 Interactive busy boards with multiple activities
📚 A dedicated book corner
🎨 Colouring and creative resources
🛒 A market stall
🍳 A play kitchen and role-play resources
🧸 A wide range of age-appropriate toys and activities
While these resources are important, one of the features we are most proud of is our unique Toy Catalogue.

We have carefully developed a catalogue containing over 100 toys and activities, allowing children and families to browse and select additional items together for their contact session.
The catalogue includes:
💚 Family games and board games
💚 Puzzles and problem-solving activities
💚 Sensory and inclusive toys
💚 Educational resources
💚 Creative activities
💚 Toys designed to encourage interaction between children and adults
The concept is simple but powerful.
Rather than toys simply being placed in a room, children and families can sit together, look through the catalogue and decide what they would like to play with during their visit.
For many families, this becomes part of the experience itself.
It creates opportunities for conversation, decision-making, shared interests and excitement before the activity has even begun.
We wanted to create something that feels special and memorable for the children and families who attend our centre.
Because family time should be more than just a visit. It should be an opportunity to connect, interact, laugh, play and create positive memories together.
Supporting Positive Family Time
Family time within a contact centre setting can sometimes be challenging to navigate.
Unlike time spent at home, contact sessions take place within a professional environment where there are expectations, boundaries and safeguarding responsibilities that must be maintained.
This can sometimes feel difficult for parents who simply want to enjoy time with their children.
At springcare, we recognise this balance.
Our role is not to interfere with family relationships but to support them.
Our experienced and trained contact supervisors work hard to ensure that sessions remain safe, positive and child-focused while helping families understand any boundaries that may be in place.
By providing clear guidance, support and reassurance, we help create an environment where children and parents can focus on enjoying their time together.
More Than Just a Visit
Family time is about far more than simply attending a contact session.
It is about:
🎨 Playing together
📚 Reading together
🧩 Sharing activities
💬 Having conversations
😊 Laughing together
❤️ Creating memories
These moments may seem small, but they are often the moments children remember most.
A game played together.
A favourite story read aloud.
A shared joke.
A hug goodbye.
These experiences help strengthen family connections and remind children that they are loved.
Looking Ahead to Our Grand Opening
As we prepare to open the new Springcare Family Support Centre, we remain committed to creating welcoming spaces where children and families can spend meaningful time together.
We look forward to welcoming families, professionals and members of the local community to our Grand Opening on Friday 26 June 2026 at 211 Fore Street, Edmonton, N18 2TZ.
Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the centre, meet our team, learn more about our services and celebrate this exciting new resource for children and families.
Putting Families First
Every child deserves the opportunity to build positive memories with the people who are important to them.
Every family deserves to feel respected and supported.
And every moment of family time should be recognised for the importance it holds.
Because when family time is supported, children benefit.
